Northwest Substance Abuse Recovery Alliance (NWSARA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals begin and sustain long-term recovery from substance abuse. Through partnerships with licensed substance abuse counselors, NWSARA identifies and qualifies individuals who are committed to recovery but face financial hardship. We offer direct financial assistance to both individuals and the programs that support them—ensuring access to vital therapy, outpatient treatment, and sober living environments.

How You Can Help Support a Resident

You can support a resident by helping cover the cost of their recovery journey. A typical first year of outpatient treatment can exceed $20,000. This includes approximately $13,000 for the first 3 months of intensive outpatient care, along with an additional $600 per month for sober housing – totaling another $7,200. In some cases, inpatient treatment is also necessary, adding $15,000 to $30,000 more depending on the length of stay.

Many of the individuals we serve began using substances at a young age and are now facing the full impact—mentally, physically, and emotionally. They often find themselves without stable employment or family support, and some are living in homeless encampments when they finally realize their need for change.

Government assistance programs often focus first on short-term housing and food needs, with therapeutic treatment taking a backseat. This approach may offer only maintenance-level care rather than the deep, sustained support required for true recovery. Experts in the field agree: long-term recovery takes time – often two to three years of dedicated effort and support.
